I am slowly getting into my new job and face a lot of
challenges I suppose most of which anyone would face in a new position over the
first month. The children are lovely and friendly and I have spent some time at
the school playing recreational games and watching them learn how to make short
films. This board game is called Carrom which I remember playing in primary
school in London
when I was a kid.
I think the hardest challenge is setting your own structure
and day to day work, I’m still a bit unorganised at present, need to do myself
a timetable. This week I should also be getting a motorbike, which Deepshikha
have agreed to lend me for a year while on placement. I have bought a helmet in
preparation and hope the saying you never forget rings true. I am looking
forward to having my own transport as this gives me a degree of independence. I’m
not so much looking forward to the traffic jams and chaotic drivers but I will
learn to negotiate in time. Currently this is much better than the shuttle
autos I’m catching as I get ripped off every time I catch one and the drivers
are really unfriendly, this is much different to my experience in Delhi .

I’m managing to go shopping on my own now, and have also set
up a bank account, so slowly but surely my life is moving forward. In the next
few months I will be doing some weekend travelling as always will keep you
updated. Take care and keep reading.
Rosie - glad things are settling down and that you are making some good friends and that you have been dancing :-) We've been shifting furniture around the house (I think you will see a big difference when you return) and are trying to make decisions about whether to put wood flooring or carpet down! (Not at all very exciting!) Erin can now stand independently - I will def have to do you another blog post as she is changing so quickly. Love ya loads hon, keep blogging!! Love Em xxxx
ReplyDeleteHi Rosie,
ReplyDeleteSounds like things are going well. We didn't visit Jharkhand but we did spend time in Orissa, West Bengal, Bihar and UP. Any thoughts where you would like to go if you were to do a bit of travelling around?
Im off to Orissa - Puri in a couple of weeks to meet some friends working there with VSO. plan to go to Betla National park end of May to see tigers of course. I have also booked to go to Kolkata beginning of June. But hopefully October time will travel overland to Nepal, maybe take in varanasi, darjelling on route, would like to see rajasthan at some point and have goa, kerela, mumbai in mind for xmas. But plans can change so will see. Where do you recommend?

ReplyDeleteWe spent Christmas in Puri at a place called Hotel Z! It was really nice if you need somewhere to stay. The sun temple at Konark is also worth a look.
ReplyDeleteKolkata is lively so I am sure you will enjoy that. I seem to remember you can get decent Chinese food there, which may be nice for a change.
Hi Vince
ReplyDeleteIm OK for accommodation there is many VSO volunteers spread about which helps. Chinese food seems the second diet here so its good for a change. Looking forward to going to a big city. Thanks
Rosie
